Banffshire fiddler Issac Cooper (1755-1811) wrote the first Slow Strathspey. He was a gifted teacher, dancing master and composer. The second tune was collected by an Irish musician called Stephen Grier in the early 1880s. Lord Banff is an extinct or dormant title in the Peerage of Scotland.
